Job Title: CAIR AZ Executive Director.

The Arizona Chapter of the Council on American Relations in Phoenix has an opening for the full-time, permanent, salaried position of Executive Director. The successful candidate will be the Chief Operating Officer of the Arizona Chapter and leader of the CAIR-AZ office and staff.

Phoenix is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.  It has a very upbeat lifestyle with a growing Muslim community of over 50,000.  Phoenix is also an affordable city with reasonable housing and living expenses.

Position: Full time (or Part time) permanent salaried position.

Job description:

This position will be the focal point for communications, activities, and programs emanating from the CAIR - (chapter name) Office.
This shall include but not be limited to:

  • Interaction with the local Muslim community on an ongoing and regular basis.
  • Media watch and dealing with the media on an ongoing basis.
  • Meetings with corporate and government officials as the need arises.
  • Communication with CAIR National.
  • Generating reports for CAIR National and the Board of Directors.
  • Day to day operation of the office including supervising the staff.
  • Arranging and organizing chapter Board meetings.
  • Being responsible for chapter fundraising.
  • Preparation of an annual budget.
  • Special projects and events for the chapter.
  • Ensuring that chapter constitution/bylaws are being adhered to and followed.
  • Any other assignment given by the Board of Directors.

Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate will have a University degree. Two years of working experience in a related field with NGOs being desirable. Must have good organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills; possess superior communication (both verbal and written); a solid understanding of issues relating to Islam; and an outgoing and proactive disposition. A legal background and previous experience in public relations is desired but not mandatory.  Candidate should be computer literate.

Training: 

CAIR National will provide a training period at National office, and also some on-the-job training at the chapter office.
