Job Title: Civil Rights Coordinator
The nation’s largest civil rights advocacy organization for Muslims seeks a civil rights coordinator. We seek a high energy, assertive individual to handle a wide range of legal responsibilities and to be come an integral part of our advocacy team.
Duties:
This full-time position involves handling of civil rights cases, which includes interviewing and counseling complainants, communicating with offending individuals, companies and organizations.
This person should have a law degree (Juris Doctor/ “JD”), paralegal certificate, or a Bachelor’s degree in related field. Applicant should also have working knowledge of the Microsoft applications particularly Excel and database applications.
Qualifications:
- Experience advocating for individuals who have faced discrimination.
- Experience in client counseling, litigation, mediation, and/or arbitration.
- Ability to multitask and ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Effective writing and communication skills, the ability to establish positive working relationships with colleagues, and sound judgment are of utmost importance.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- High degree of responsibility and dedication.
- Willing to travel.
Minimum of four years experience required.

Job Title: Executive Director
POSITION SUMMARY
The Executive Director reports to the board of directors. The Executive Director is responsible for the fulfillment of the organization’s mission and the development and implementation of its strategies. The Executive Director oversees and provides strategic leadership for the chapter’s work and continued growth and development.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
General Management:
Board of Directors Relations:
- Attend and prepare agendas and materials for Board meetings
Ensure that chapter constitution/by-laws are followed
Financial Management:
- Develop and oversee the annual budget
- Monitor and manage revenue and expenses
- Provide financial reports and annual reports to the Board of Directors
Fundraising and Development:
- Organize and conduct fundraising events on behalf of the chapter, such as the annual banquet
- Continue on-going fundraisers and development of future events
- Research and write grants
- Cultivate relationships with current and new donors
- Manage membership campaigns and the annual fund drive
Community Relations:
- Act as the public face for CAIR-Oklahoma
- Conduct educational and diversity training workshops about Islam and Muslims
- Interface and build relationships with community members, organizations, and interfaith leaders
- Interact with the Muslim community across the state on a regular basis
- Maintain communication with other CAIR chapters nationwide
Public and Media Relations:
- Oversee the production of publications and advertising pieces including reports, literature, campaign themes, announcements and advertisements
- Draft and distribute news releases, newsletters, action alerts, press statements, and talking points
- Develop relationships with and interact with media on an ongoing basis and monitor media coverage
Civic and Government Relations:
- Conduct meeting with local, state and federal government officials on an ongoing basis
- Meet and collaborate with other civil rights organizations on common causes
- Establish educational events and campaigns to encourage civic engagement and empowerment for the Oklahoma Muslim community
Program Development:
- Maintain existing programs, projects and campaigns
- Develop new educational and civic participation programs and campaigns
Informational Technology
- Web site maintenance (web site development and graphic design is desired)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required (a degree in the humanities, law, business or related field is preferred. Masters Degree, MBA or Juris Doctorate preferred)
- Two years work experience with a non-profit organization or in a related field
- Experience working with a Board of Directors is desired
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Experience in developing, managing, reporting and maintaining budgets
- Planning and organization skills
- Experience in fundraising Some evening and weekend work, as well as travel will be required
- A solid understanding of issues relating to Islam
- An outgoing and proactive disposition
- Candidate must be computer literate
- Must be a U.S. citizen
NOTE: As in most non-profit organizations, all personnel may be required to perform duties outside their normal responsibilities from time to time, as needed.
